http://screencrave.com/2009-02-05/why-does-everyone-hate-michael-bay/It is sort of refreshing to see someone defending the much maligned Michael Bay. I actually was starting to feel just an eensy bit sorry for the man, Lord knows it must suck to be the internet's latest punching bag. However, the article just ended up solidifying my hatred not just for Bay, but for the people who keep trying to defend him because both parties absolutely refuse to see what the real problem is. The opening paragraph is a piece of fail right off the bat: Is it illegal to make films that entertain and excite the masses? Is it a crime to literally give people more “bang” for their buck when sitting in a theater? If the answer is no, why do so many people have a problem with the film-making style of director/producer Michael Bay? For years critics have been dumping on Bay because of his desire to produce big budget films. Explosions and car chases have become his signature, and are easily identifiable by any steady movie goer.I have a problem with Michael Bay's film-making style precisely because it is not entertaining. Well, I'll qualify that remark - the first half-hour or so of the first Transformers is sort of diverting, kind of 'heh, that's funny,' but then the film descends into whatever level of Hell is reserved for sheer stupidity. The Transformers are idiots, pure and simple and as Ray at OWF put it in his typically rage-filled review, great special effects really aren't enough to hide the fact that a film is utterly stupid, badly acted and all round moronic. The first Transformers isn't a long film, yet it bores me to tears (my five year old nephew loves it, so I've unfortunately had to sit through it more than once). So, Michael Bay does not give me bang for my buck. I guess that's only reserved for guys who think the untalented, average-looking Megan Fox is the hottest shit ever. But even then, surely they could just download lots of pics of her and let their imaginations run riot - at the very least, it would be a lot cheaper.
